My Pre-Service Teaching Experience

I have been fortunate enough to reach some important personal and professional goals in my time at university. Throughout my degree I have participated in various professional development programs and embraced many opportunities. Some of these experiences are listed below.

In 2014 I was awarded a Certificate of Membership to the Golden Key Society in recognition of my high academic achievement. In 2015, I received recognition on the Southern Cross University Deans Honours Roll, for 'High Academic Achievement".

I accepted a scholarship position through the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and SCU for the 5 day music program, 'TunedUp, 2016' at ABC Studio's in Sydney. This intensive program was aimed at increasing teachers music knowledge and repertoire to deliver quality music lessons through classroom and whole school music programs. Participation in this program has increased both my knowledge and confidence to deliver quality music lessons in my own classroom which has resulted in a high level of student engagement in my music lessons.

 In 2015 I volunteered to help implement the T20 Milo Cricket program through Cricket Australia, the skills I gained in this program have been of great benefit in my Physical Education lessons. I also participated in the NSW Sport and Recreation program for teaching Traditional Indigenous games, in 2016. This has been an invaluable resource for my teaching  and I look forward to introducing the traditional games to more students in my career. I believe it is vital that as teachers we demonstrate positive and inclusive practices and implement experiences that respect and reflect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and traditions.

In 2016 and 2017 I was accepted into the Narranga Public School SHAPE program and SCU SCIL program at Coffs harbour Public School. These programs have provided the opportunity to become immersed in each unique school on a volunteer basis, over a 10 week period, in addition to the regular practicum block.

I have been able to participate in valuable professional development workshops through these programs including;

Growth Mindset for Teaching, Numeracy and Literacy workshops, Sparky and Shady Personal Development workshop, Special Education classes, Sensory Processing workshops and Math and Movement training. I have also completed training in Child Safety, Anaphylaxis, Asthma and CPR training and "Math and Movement' as part of the school professional development day.

The SHAPE program provided the opportunity to program and assist in organising extra- curricula activities as part of the school. These included; a stage 2 science day, school fete store and costume/makeup assistant for the Lighthouse for Schools dance and music show.

These pre-teaching experiences have been invaluable to further develop my teaching philosophy, skills, strategies and programming. I endeavour to continually improve my practices and reflect on my teaching and pedagogy as a lifelong learner and quality teacher.
