Standard 2: Know the Content and How to Teach it.

Knowing the content and how to teach it is vital to student learning and success across all curriculum areas. A deep understanding of the content and structure for teaching concepts or skills has been possible through personal research, university units of study and subsequent assignments and importantly through collaboration with quality trained teachers working in schools. I have participated in music, traditional indigenous games, ICT, literacy and numeracy workshops in addition to my regular units of study, these have been invaluable to my own knowledge of concepts and in turn my confidence to teach across these areas. I am able to access curriculum documents including NSW syllabus outcomes and cross-curriculum priorities as required.

I am able to use various teaching strategies and select specific lesson content and success criteria specific to the learning intention. For example I recently used a video explanation to explicitly introduce a dictionary lesson, this was an effective visual example that allowed students to follow the steps with their dictionary. A verbal instruction in this instance would have been less effective. In addition to a strong understanding of how to teach content, using various methods and teaching strategies across the curriculum, I have received positive written feedback in regards to my effective use of  ICT to compliment and extend learning across the curriculum, in the general classroom and for specialised learning.
